Can this "feature" be made user selectable? Some areas, such as Maryland,
require the use of the area code when making a call. For example, if your
area code is 301, you must enter 301-xxx-xxxx even to call your neighbor
next door. My understanding is that this will eventually be required
everywhere.
Furthermore, in Maryland, the phone company asserts that they are running
out of 301 numbers, and thus created additional area codes (which, I
believe, have not yet been assigned to people). Thus, in the not too
distant future, you may have area code 301 for your phone number, and the
neighbor that just moved in next door will have the new area code.
