So far, all I've used my modem for, with ECS, is caller ID. Now that I'm trying to
set up a few numeric pager messages to notify me of certain events, I have noticed that
the modem is not resetting after making a call, or failing to complete the call (as
the case may be).
For example:
When I attempt to send a numeric pager message, using Phone-Call item, and the modem
fails to detect a dialtone, ECS returns a "No dialtone-abort" message. ECS then indicates:
"Resetting Phone-Interface-C"
"Resetting Phone-Interface-C...Done"
About 30 seconds later, I hear the loud "You left the phone off the hook, stupid!" beeps
coming from the modem speaker. Sure enough, the phone is still off the hook. I am
able to reset the phone by then manually selecting "Reset" on the Phone-Interface-C
item, or "Hang-up" on the Local-Phone-Button item.
The same thing occurs after ECS successfully dials a numeric pager number, sends its
message, and indicates that the Phone interface has been reset.
The first example could be solved by getting ECS to skip dialtone detection, and I could
work around the rest of the reset failures by programming a step to manually reset or
hangup the modem a few seconds after ECS does it automatically, but these are just temporary
fixes. I'd rather hear what the experts recommend for truly fixing this problem.
Thanks again,
Jerry
