Thanks for the info, Scott. I tried placing the X3 command in the dial
string of the Phone-Call item.

    Pager:ATX3DT305XXXXXXX.......

Works like a charm.

Now, if I can just figure out why the modem doesn't release the line after a
call is terminated.

Thanks again,
Jerry

You can play with the X1-X4 settings on the modem, to ignore dialtone. I
found some settings at:
http://www.computercraft.com/docs/hayescom.html

I have used this at work because we have the same problem with voicemail.
Now as to what it will do to the ecs system, I dont know. I believe it just
doesnt pay attention to the dialtone. wait ¯ let me try this out ¯ hold
please.....OK I tried it and if you send an ATX3 to the modem, that should
tell it to ignore the dialtone and blind dial the number. You can use
hyperterminal or something like that to set the modem and then store it as
the default configuration, or there may be a way to do this as part of the
dial string in ECS.

Has anyone been able to get ECS to ignore dialtone detection when placing a
numeric pager call? I asked this question about a year ago, and the only
solution offered was to use the "Call/Wait" option for dialing out.
Unfortunately, ECS promptly returns the message "No dialtone-abort",
immediately after setting the Phone-Call item to the "Call" or "Call/Wait"
state. My voice mail service uses a "stutter" dialtone to indicate messages
waiting for the first 4-5 seconds after picking up the phone, and returns to
a normal dialtone after that. I would like ECS to either skip dialtone
detection, or wait 5+ seconds before attempting to dial (or attempting to
detect a dialtone) after picking up the line. I have tested my Phone-Call
item's functioning by manually picking up the phone, waiting until the
normal dialtone is heard, and then setting the item to "Call", and
everything works great after that.

I am using the Zoom Comstar 56k modem as Phone-Interface-C. I did de-select
the "Detect dialtone" option under the properties for this modem, but that
had no effect on ECS' handling of dialtone detection.

I would appreciate any suggestions for working around this problem.

Thanks,
Jerry
