I can now proceed intelligently. i found the tts.dt file and the font width line had
a 125
on it, the resulting help file display was impossible to read. that is what i said was
"screwed up". Now my tts.dt file reads:

Sound Engine :Female (for Telephone)
File Engine :Female (for Telephone)
File Engine output :D:\TTS.WAV
Minimize window :0
Window line count :20
Log line count :100
Window Y0 :38
Window X0 :10
Font Width :9

D is a ram disk. everything works however the file which is generated seems to always
be
in use by the tts program and not released for me to rename and use elsewhere. can you
provide help? thanks
