Subject: From: Date: | ECS HTML integration William Biggs Sat, 12 Sep 1998 11:07:00 -0500 |
Here's a thought for the Windows users.
Can ECS hook into an HTML page?
My idea is to scan in a floorplan of my house, and make a web page with
Microsoft Front Page 98.
One Web page will have icons for lights. If a light is on, the room (or
section of a room if it has more than one light) will be illuminated.
I can click on a section of the map to turn lights on & off.
There will be a small frame on the page to choose other options besides
lights. Things like motion, windows, doors, weather, caller id, etc. What
we now call a group would have it's own page. And on each page we could
customize what we want with an HTML program, like Front Page.
Of course ECS would still be the brains behind it all, handling the events
and hardware, we would just use the HTML like we do a group editor page.
If we were using a personal web server, we could connect over the Internet
to our home automation pages, and theoretically look over the groups. We
could check security remotely, look at messages, check the weather, etc.
Even if we were overseas, as long as we had an Internet connection we could
check on our home.
If somebody hasn't thought of these options by now, they probably will soon.
Since ECSW looks about ready for prime time we need to think of the next
level of graphical features and internet connectivity.
Rather than have ECS do the graphical work itself, why not use a web browser
type of system which can do a better job and is infinitely more adaptable
and customizable?
