Re: [ECS] Speak-Messages

OK, I'll try to be a little clearer, not that it may be possible.....

You know I'm "hung-up" on being able to retain "local-phone" control,
hence my reluctance to change to ECS (windows). I'm certain that it
would "fix" my problem, provide a "clearer" voice (speech package) and a
host of other things. However, it does require that I buy another modem
(zoom/comstar) and I understand from review of the threads here that it
is not exactly "stellar" in its recording (aka-phone answering,
recording messages) capability.

More to the point...

I have a touchscreen (surplus IBM roadwarrior in a cabinet I built to
match the kitchen cabinets - and the wife LIKES it!) which we all use to
interact with ECS. I have programmed a "MESSAGE" screen with which to
retrieve phone messages (All, New). When messages are retrieved with a
touchscreen, they are played by the soundblaster card to a speaker in
the den (which is 3 feet from the touchscreen). However, playing
messages by selecting commands with the touchscreen does not allow the
ability to delete/skip/keep as new/rewind/skip-forward on any given
phone message, which you would have IF you used "local-phone" or
"remote-phone" events to retrieve your messages..... Following so far?

My question really stemmed from the fact that if I designate a
"Voice-Recording" type to be recorded thru the BIGMOUTH card, I can have
ECS "play" it through the Soundblaster (speaker) and continue execution
of ECS without waiting for the voice-recording to finish playing.....
However, if I select "Speak-Messages" the system halts..Even though
they're being played thru the Soundblaster card and there is NOTHING the
Bigmouth is doing (it's already done its job, it made the recording
initially which is now being played back).... Phone messages are
recorded through the BIGMOUTH, and in this case, played back through the
Soundblaster card.....

So, why is a "voice-recording" made through the Bigmouth card treated
differently on playback (to speaker) than a phone message which is also
recorded on the Bigmouth card?????

If I've lost you, then let me know when I can call you on the telephone
(I leave Saturday night at 1900 to fly to Lima, Peru and will return on
Monday at 1730; if saturday is convenient, I'll call then, else, let me
know when....) because I just can't think of any clearer way to
express this via e-mail.....
