Well, I have FIDO and I use the text messaging for ECS messages.  Only
thing is that I send it through the Internet (and it can sometimes take
several minutes for me to receive the message).

I don't think there's any way to send text messages other than using
someone else's FIDO phone, an operator, or via the Internet.
