A number of months ago there was some talk about Black and Decker's Titan, a remotely
controllable lockset. If any of you have a URL or any info it would be much appreciated.
I have recently acquired one of these locksets. Here's what I have learned.
First off the product is made by Kwikset a Black and Decker company and the model is
called Titan, AccessOne. The lockset is a brass single cylinder remotely controllable
Class 2 security deadbolt with a 1" bolt. It comes with 2 4-button RF remote controls.
The controls are of the code-cycling type for added security. The exterior cylinder
body has a 2 color Red and Green LED as well as a small beeper to advise of the locks
status. Green for OPEN Red for closed (this can be reversed) and a red led on the latch
side of the set. The latch side of the set has the usual latch and a battery compartment
that houses 4 AA cells. It is enclosed by a brass/plastic cover. In the battery compartment
there is a mode switch for the operational modes P-PROGRAM, 1-AUTO-CLOSE, 2-NORMAL.
The remotes are very small and not too cheesy like the X-10 stuff.
They are very interesting indeed and hold allot of promise for automators. The remote
controls have 4 buttons 1-Lock, 1-Unlock, 1-Garage Door, 1-Home Control. An easily overlooked
feature is the separate buttons for lock instead of the "toggle" button found on the
similar Wieser Powerbolt locks. The separate buttons mean the ability to connect to
a relay output for ECS control of your locks. The garage door control is for Genie Intellicode
door openers which also are code cycling type. The Genie receivers are available separately
and are not too expensive.
The remote has a button for home lighting on it but there is not a scrap of documentation
about it in the package. The side of the package mentions the ability to control lights
with this remote but no details. I will be testing the remotes with our garage door
and if the Home Control button works with it, I will buy a separate Genie receiver to
control some house stuff. The docs do mention that the 2, garage and home control buttons
are compatible with AccessOne products. Claim of range is 30 feet I have confirmed at
least 25 feet.
Other features are the key is somehow Universally re-keyable to any existing keys you
have. Well that's what it says. Unfortunately the AUTO-Lock feature only works if you
unlock with a remote. I was hoping I could use this to avoid having our doors left open...No
such luck.
Any more info would be dandy.
