Hello everyone,
As an update, I have the byterunner 8 port PCI running under Win98 now. In order to
free up one IRQ, I moved the mouse to COM1 (temporarily) thus freeing up IRQ 12 which
serves the PS/2 mouse port.
I had to physically remove the 3Com network card and Byterunner serial card and swap
PCI slots in order for the BIOS to reassign the IRQs. I ended up giving the Ethernet
card IRQ 12 and the PCI serial IRQ 10.
As part of my research, it looks like **everything** is going USB. All the new scanners,
digital cameras, serial ports, printer ports, keyboards, even Ethernet adapters (5.6
mbps) are available for USB, with no slot hassle, no IRQ or DMA hassles. Even Microsoft
has a Intellimouse with the wheel on it for USB now.
Unfortunately, there is a 127 serial port limit with USB. Can you imagine addressing
COM126 ? Can you fit that on the setup screen Mark ?
