As for 230V X10, I hear that this is available, at least in the UK and
Australia. Go to comp.home.automation and ask there; that's where the
people with experience hang out.

As for date and time formats: Europe writes dates and times completely
different from the US - beginning with the fact that Europe usually uses
24-hour time rather than 12-hour, and month and day are exchang. For
instance, what we would write as

12/26/98 4:00 PM, in Germany would be written as 26.12.98 16.00 In the
Netherlands, it's probably similar but may yet again be different (Japan
uses 98-12-26, yet another format!).

I'm not sure what the point of implementing just that would be, though,
because ECS is in many other respects a very American program. This begins
with English speech, adherance to US telephone standards (European
telephone numbers are generally NOT 3+7 digits, and 0, not 1, indicates
another area code) and to US needs (one important feature in the European
market would be, I imagine, is keeping track of telephone expenses - with
the cheap US rates and free local calls, it's a non-issue here. Where
people buy Caller ID devices in the US, they buy telephone charge tracking
devices in Europe).

Basically, anything beyond using straight X-10 is likely to cause problems.
In fact, even X10 itself will cause problems because none of the X-10 PLCs
will work unchanged in Europe - the best bet is probably the LynX-10 with a
230V TW-523. Home Vision? Forget it, they don't use NTSC TVs.

Might anyone offer any advice to Eric ?
I don't know what he means by euro time/date formats,
and know nothing about X-10 in Europe.

Hi, Living in Amsterdam is easy.. but not for X10 things. Just before I
start to look into your program...is it able to deal with european date
and time formats? Switches have differents numbers over here, 230V 50Hz
etc etc
So please tell me if your program is something for me? Eric
