Subject: From: Date: | Re: Water Flow Detection/Shut-off Steven Wegman Tue, 12 Jan 1999 00:21:58 -0500 |
This message is not directly related to ECS, but I hope you can help me.
About 2 years ago, I recall seeing a discussion on the group about a
device that is attached to your main water pipe (and its shut off valve)
that monitors the flow of water through the pipe. If water is flow is
detected for a predetermined period of time (that you set), it concludes
that a pipe in the house (such as a washing machine hose, or some other
pipe) has broken, at which point it actuates an associated motor to operate
the main water shut-off valve and shut off the water flow. The unit could
also be controlled via X10. I believe the company that manufactured the
product is located in Maryland; perhaps Columbia, Maryland.
If someone recalls the manufacturer, could you please give me their name
and phone number.
During the Christmas week, there was a television program on Dateline
regarding water damage to houses by broken washing machine hoses. Well,
wouldn't you know it. I have a house in NY, in which the kitchen sink
water pipe broke last week. The water ran for several days, before it was
detected by a neighbor (when the water started flowing out the front door),
and has caused a lot of damage. I would like to obtain this water shut off
controller and install it in my NY and MD house to prevent a future
occurrence.
Any help would be appreciated.
