Subject: From: Date: | RE: [ECS] Voice Recognition technology question Mark Sekelsky Tue, 12 Jan 1999 17:47:56 -0600 |
Carl,
I have been playing around with VR but use it far more to "show off" than
everyday use. I have a wireless microphone with the receiver plugged into
the back of the sound card. Recognition is about 90% accurate and it works
throughout the house (receiver in basement of two story house).
You can do what you are asking. You create an item that is the text you
want to speak (i.e. "Arm the security system.") You can also tell ECS
whether or not you want this command to be verified prior to executing it.
When ECS hears you speak "Arm the security system" (and confirm it if you
set it up that way) it sets the state of that item to TRUE. (Think of it
like a FLAG). You than have an event that executes whenever that item is
set to TRUE just like you would have something execute if it were a
particular time.

Subject: [ECS] Voice Recognition technology question
All,
Not having used the ECS system before, I wanted to ask
about the tie in capabilities of ECS and voice recognition
products.
What is the current state of voice recognition systems
tied into computers? Can you say something like"
"Computer: Record NBC tonight at 8 PM"
or
"Computer: Arm the security system"
or
"Computer: Are any windows currently open?"
and have it understand and act on that? What hardware
and software understands those commands and interprets
them? Does it used room mikes, or do you have to activate
a mike and speak directly into it?
If anyone has something like this working I'd be curious to hear
about it.
Thanks,
Carl
