Carl,
Icon files usually have two or three different icons in them: 16x16 (16
colors), 32x32 (monochrome or 256 colors), 48x48 (256 colors) and 64x64 (I
believe, 16 million colors. I'm not sure) are common resolutions -
sometimes, people only include the 16x16 and 32x32 one. These icons should
all show essentially the same thing, except that the 64x64 will of course
show more detail than the 16x16.
The 16x16 icon is the small one that you'll see in the list view of
Explorer. The 64x64 one is the one that you'll see on the desktop. If an
icon is missing, Windows will try to scale the next smaller one.
You'll need an icon editor (e.g., Visual C++), since the format is quite
different from the bitmap format usually used. If you don't have one, I'd
suggest you draw bitmaps of the appropriate sizes. Since Mark obviously has
VC++, you can send it to him. He can then load the bitmaps into Paintbrush
and then copy and paste them into VC++. He currently has only a 32x32 icon,
although I would recommend adding a 16x16 icon.
