Mark & Bill,
Just a note. I had the same experience, sans the wife episode,
with bad sound quality with that modem. I've since bought
and use an answering machine. I'm in on paying or whatever it
takes to get decent telephony again!
P.S. Decent meaning at least 8bit 22k message recording.
