Dan,
A dumb terminal can be used as a console for ECST using the CTTY=COMx DOS
command. This transfers the standard input and output to the TTY device.
Video mode must be CO80 or Mono so it won't work with Win.

If you are running the ECS/WIN then you can set up screens or files on the
hard drive and transmit them to the screen using ECS's send>COMx operator.
This will be great for updating house status every minute with a different
screen for each significant event occurrence such as SECURITY ALERT could be
displayed. Macro values can be entered at the terminal.

If the terminal supports VT100 or ANSI then you can do basic box drawing
graphics.
