OK Mark,
With my setup (hardware hasn't changed in a long time) the test run resulted
in a very garbled voice at first.
After running in a DOS box with the SET command, it was much better.
It was somewhat lacking in higher frequencies though. Seemed to be not too
bad for volume.
I use an older Creative Labs PhoneBlaster (14.4, sound card built in).
Sounds very much better when played over the phone though.
Two things:

1) How do I get the environment variable set on without the DOS session
trick or are you going to change something else to take care of it?

2) I do however have a 6 second delay (had it before too) from the time the
answer item is set to answer to the time the speech starts. Don't have this
long a delay on any thing else. It is long enough that some people hang up
before it starts.

I am about to upload ECSB.ZIP with the TTS->MODEM fix
(download via web page at "ECS BETA").
To test, set any text Item to SPEAK->PC:SP.
If it sounds horrible, exit ECS, start a DOS session,
enter "SET ADPCM_REV=0", run ECS (from the DOS session),
and try again.
Please report your results WITH your modem make/year.
THANKS.
