Instead of the DOS box trick, you can set any environment variable in your
AUTOEXEC.BAT file (under 95) and then reboot.

If you run NT, you can set environment variables in the Control Panel under
System.

Or (kludgier but works in both systems) you write a batch file that does
the SET command and then starts ECS, and put that on your desktop.
