Sounds like CLKVCT is not being executed in \AUTOEXEC.BAT.

problem: All I can suggest is to closely follow the
"Installation for STEREO Sound Blasters" section
of ECS.HTM.

I don't recall ever hearing of this one - need details.

This is misleading, as the "free-mem" is actually the
largest single free block of mem, NOT the total.
ECST 4.0 only takes a little more mem that 3.4.
