Paul, if you create a serial-byte item on COM3 and get
no error. Then delete it and create a plc-ifc item
using the same com port. Then any resulting err message
should be something OTHER than "COM3 does not exist".
What is "it" ? - the port or the interface ?
As always, I need the exact text of error messages.
Otherwise, I must speculate.

Also, what is "it" (as in "it states that...") ?
