Kevin, I have the DCS 832. I only am interested in the armed/disarmed state,
which the DCS can give with a relay output built in to the main unit.

You are correct, you are supposed to be able to arm and disarm the DSC unit
with a zone (like a keyswitch) which would be ideal for ECS. I haven't
implemented this yet but the docs are pretty clear.

I'm using the Model 40 for digital input/output. If you're interested in
zone status I suppose you could use a digital input to monitor the zone
directly (they are obviously operating from high/low values) without trying
to interface with the alarm unit itself? I'm assuming the digital inputs
would not load the zone to the point of dropping the voltage.

A couple of the internet sites have all the DCS manuals in PDF format
available for download, so you can take a look at them before you buy. If
you're interested I'll dig up a URL.

Subject: [ECS] DSC 832

Hi,

I know there was someone on the list that was using the DSC 832 Security
system but I forgot who!

I have a question:

Because the DSC 832 will not interface with ECS directly I want to try to
have the Security system report status to ECS via my HomeVision PC digital
inputs. I was thinking of purchasing the PC5208 Low Current Output Module
(8 transistor switch outputs). The information I have says each output is
programmable to activate for any of 18 options. Does anyone know what these
18 options are? I really only need to monitor zone information.

Also, I have heard that you could ARM/DISARM the DSC 832 system by using an
existing zone and programming the system to ARM/DISARM the system based on
the status of the zone-This would allow me to ARM/DISARM with ECS using my
HV-PC. Any information would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
