Subject: From: Date: | Out of Area Frank Herron Charlotte NC Mon, 27 Jul 98 09:13:26 EDT |
I get a lot of Out of Area calls, usually tellemarkerter junkers. I have a
cheap one line CID box in kitchen, pre ECS. I am running ECST ver 3.4. I use
the Zoom 14.4 Modem for caller id. I changed to caller ID Deluxe (name &
number) this winter. All seemed well. Read yesterdays postings.
Last night phone rang, and ECS said Out of Area. Checked my little CID box and
there was a number in there but no name! Checked Previous call, this was from
someone not in my caller.id file. The CID box had name and number and ECS had
announced the name. Since caller ID deluxe ECS no longer speaks the digits.
Used to be if NOT in caller.id file the voice would say 7 8 2 1 0 9 9. Now ECS
does not know what type of caller id service you subscribe to, but I think what
is happening is the "name" packet from phone co is blank (as happenened to me
last evening) and ECS sees that as no info, never looks at the number, and says
Out of Area.
Here is another documented Fact that does not work correctly if you have caller
id deluxe. In my caller.id file used to be I could put 782-109* and if any
number from 782-1900 through 782-1909 called you would here that Name. When I
went to caller id deluxe that broke. Doctors etc have multiple lines.
Maybe these two are related some how. I sure would like to have less Out of
Area calls.
