Hmmm, what an interesting idea. Are you suggesting that when a guest comes
to the house, you have them walk over to the keypad and type in their phone
number And, by extension, if you had a text terminal there, they could enter
their name too.
OK, taking it a step further, wouldn't it be great to have them email the
info to you, in some predefined form, or have a web form somewhere they
could fill out. ECS, or some external program, would then parse the data,
and append it to the CID file.
Hmmmm...
Cheers!

Subject: [ECS] Event to Update call-id lists
ECS has always been an OWNERS system. I am looking for ways to make ECS more
of a USERS system. Currently I am coding an event to allow users to enter
their own CID phone numbers from a keypad without going to the main console.
Anyone doing something like this.
I figure that I should be able to append the ASCII string it created by the
keypad to a the CID file, but adding the dash in the xxx-xxxx, and the tag
number to the ASCII string may be a chore.
I hope to relieve myself of having to update CID files. This could be one
way to get the automation system out-of-the-box. ECS-WIN should have some
small utilities that allow users to enter data in some intuitive way. I
think the WIFE factor would also be better if ECS allowed OTHERS to get
involved in the system.
