Subject: From: Date: | ECS Startup error Bill Walters Wed, 10 Mar 1999 13:28:37 -0600 |
Mark,
Since moving to ECS 4.0.xx, I've had an error when processing the
startup file:
It happens after the initialization of the Speech engines and the report
of "Item Initialization Complete".
The error is:
SetVol:MMSYSTEM008 This function is not supported. Use the
capabilities function to determine what this driver supp
I had originally thought this was due to my using an old 8-bit
soundblaster card. I have since upgraded my ECS computer (Cyrix
MII-300) with 8 port serial card and a Phone Blaster Card. I THOUGHT I
had installed all of the drivers, etc... In fact, just this morning, I
"re-installed" the Sound Blaster 16 software stuff, but it produced the
same error on subsequent restart.
One more thing to point out, on the bottom of my screen, in the recessed
"taskbar" (where the time is displayed) of all my other computers, is a
small speaker symbol. Double clicking on it gets the "Volume Control"
applet. This small speaker symbol DOES NOT appear on my new ECS
machine. Don't know why this is so. I did put a shortcut to
MSVOL32.exe in my startup folder so the volume control applet is "alive"
when ECS is executing.
Any ideas where I should start hunting for this?
