Subject: From: Date: | Generating touch tones in an event - change the duration of the t
one? Martin Terry Sun, 21 Mar 1999 10:54:35 -0800 |
Mark and All-
I have an unusual need. Here's the background:
I'm using a DSC-832 alarm panel with the optional intercom system. Works
very well. One feature that I like of the intercom is that you can answer
the phone with it .Convenient when I'm working in the back yard - I don't
have to mess up the floor to answer the phone, I can use the intercom
station next to the back door.
However, once you've answered the phone with the intercom, say you want to
be able to pick up an extension in the house. The way the intercom deals
with this is to go to an extension, and press a button (I think #) for AT
LEAST A SECOND.
OK, this is a problem for my cordless phone - when you press a button it
only plays the tone for a short, fixed interval - no matter how long you
hold it down. I've found this to be the case for most cordless phones I've
owned. So, no can use this phone to transfer.
So, I think, why not use ECS? Well, I guess ECS suffers the same limitation.
I'm using the bigmouth card, and when you set a local phone button item to #
it generates the tone for a fixed duration. Darn.
Mark, is there a way to control this duration? Can anyone suggest an
alternative? (I'm thinking of recording a .wav file of the button press.)
Currently I only have one phone in the house that will generate a tone as
long as you hold the button. Very inconvenient.
