Mark,

Having recently done numerous remove/install of several pieces
of "Plug and Pray" hardware, I think you need to remove the
modem and port and try again. I am at work right now on an NT
machine, but I use Windows 95 at home, so I will try to detail
this from memory.

  1) Click "START" button, select "SETTINGS", click "CONTROL PANEL"
  2) In the Control Panel, double click "SYSTEM"
  3) Click the "Device Manager" tab
  4) If not already selected, press the "display devices by type"
     radio button
  5) Click the "+" beside "Modems"
  6) Click the line for your modem
  7) Click the remove button near the bottom to remove the modem
     from the hardware list.
  8) Click "YES" if asked to confirm removal of the modem. If you
are asked to reboot, answer "NO".
  9) Click the "+" beside "Ports"
 10) Click the line for the port you want to remove, i.e. COM4.
 11) Click the remove button again to remove the port from the
     hardware list.
 12) Click "YES" if asked to confirm the removal.
 13) Reboot WITHOUT the modem. IMPORTANT: if the modem is still
in a slot, shutdown and power off, remove the modem card,
     then reboot.
 14) Shutdown and power off. Install modem card in a slot and
power up. Windows should detect the card as new.
 15) Follow the prompts and provide the CD when asked.

I realize that this is probably far more detail than you need, but
I thought there might possibly be someone else on the list who may
benefit from this. I hope I didn't get it wrong, I wrote this from
memory.

Good Luck,

Gracious/knowledgable customers:
I REALLY need some help here:
1) I installed a new Supra modem.
2) Win detected the "new device", but I killed the
auto-install, as I did not THINK that I had the
   driver CD.
3) I found the driver CD.
4) I created a serial port device (COM4) for the modem.
5) Reboot.
6) I created the modem device and installed via the
   driver CD (NO problems reported).
7) Reboot.
8) When ECS attempts to access COM4, it reports:
"A device attached to the system is not functioning".
9) When I pull up the modem in the SYSTEM/DEVICE MANAGER,
Win reports "CANNOT READ PORT NAME FROM REGISTERY".
Then it displays the properties as if all is well.
It shows that the device is "operational".

I have removed one or both devices (via Win) and rebooted.
I have ran ScanDisk.
I have pulled the modem, rebooted, re-inserted the modem,
and re-booted - but Win WILL NOT again display the "new
hardware detected" stuff at boot up.

ANY IDEAS ????

"PLUG AND PLAY" MY A. - I WANT JUMPERS!!!!!!!!!!!!
