Subject: From: Date: | Hung PC Frank Herron Charlotte NC Tue, 4 Aug 98 18:19:20 EDT |
Last night the PC was hung. Cntrl-Alt-Del would not reboot it. I am running
ECST.EXE and had NOT yet updated to the Aug 01 level. PC said now placing call
to paging center. The time was about 7:30PM and the ECS Group Screen was froze
at 4:06PM, which was right after I had recieved and log a call and ECS was
trying to page me.
Power ON/OFF of PC brought everything back to life. This morning I ran
Scandisk and changed to new ECST.EXE. Any ideas? Would a Hardware watchdog
have helped here? I don't have a spare PC card slot for the Applied Digital
Watchdog. Has anyone succesfully built their own? Like to share any ideas? I
saw one once where it connected across the PC Speaker. Every so many minutes
you had the speaker chirp, which reset this "gadget" back to zero. If the
gadgets timer poped a relay would close and the PCs reset pushbutton would be
activated. Then the PC would re- load. Thanks.
Frank
