Well, finially dusted off the "PERL" programming guide and dived in.

I've successfully stripped extra blank lines, and lots of exterraneous
mail-header info, forced pagenation, headers and footers from the text
archives of every message posted to the ecs-list for 1997.

Gary Mull was kind enough to e-mail it to me MONTHS ago, and I'm just
now courageous enough to try PERL.

It wasn't bad at all!  About 3 hours work for a minor-league program
that did tedious things to a 4.5 mb text file, reducing it to 3.5 mb.

Anyway, I'm gonna "zip" it and it will be ready for posting to the
ftp.gallops.com archives.

I take it the archive is an "open" site, available to upload.  If not,
will someone let me know privately how, or whom to send the file for
posting.


Gary,  you ready to spool off 1998????
