Hello

What exactly is the IR-3. I had a similar situation. Found that the
surge traveled through my serial ports pretty much trashing them. As for
the interfaces most serial devices go directly into some sort of driver
chip. The older style go into a 1488 or 1489 RS-232 driver chip the
newer style go into a MAX 232 chip to drive the serial ports. If you
trace the signal into the two interfaces it will be the first chip the
lines go into. I would suggest replacing them. the reason I was
wondering about the IR-3 is because the IR master 100 has all the chip
#'s taken off but I have a drawing on how that unit works if needed. If
the power surge came from the power line I would look for a voltage
regulator like a 7805 7812 or 7815 it probally smoked that. I do
electronic repair for a living if all else fails I can check them for
you before you trash them.
