Subject: From: Date: | Palm vs TouchLinc William Biggs Sat, 15 May 1999 10:49:55 -0500 |
Has anyone tried to connect a Palm Pilot to ECS ?
The Touch Linc looks overpriced and isn't very usable for anything else.
You can buy a NEW Palm Pilot for less than $150 and make (or buy) a serial
cable for it. It has a decent display, has a touch screen, and a very nice
backlight. (You can play minesweeper in bed.....)
Since Palm programming is a publicly described standard, it seems that it
would be relatively easy to write a program to connect (via serial
connection) Palm Pilots in various rooms of the house to ECS.
Thus you wouldn't be limited to only a few Touch Linc type menus. You could
have literally thousands of options of ECS events or triggers for events.
You could wire the serial port to a RJ45 type jack, cable it back to a
serial port on your ECS box, and all of ECS could be at your fingertips.
Any comments ?
