Subject: From: Date: | ECS 4.1 release notice Mark Gilmore Thu, 03 Jun 1999 06:45:23 -0700 |
For those of you who have NOT been beta-testing, I have
just released ECS/Win 4.1, with the major enhancements being:
1) The PCREMOTE IR transmitter is now supported.
2) Phone messages may now be emailed as .WAV files
(most convenient when at work or on vacation).
3) ECS now plays all messages in the "background" while Event-execution
continues. This capability also allows interactive control of the
message playback process (rewind, delete, pause, etc) via any input
device (such as X-10 keypads).
4) To help diagnose Events, ECS can now create logs detailing the
execution/processing of any desired Event lines.
5) Speech-recognition is now supported for remote phone calls,
and is also supported with the in-house phone, given one with
with an intercom output.
6) ECS now dynamically loads the appropriate speech-recognition
commands based on the current context.
To upgrade to 4.1 (for those who have NOT been beta testing):
1) Email me your ECS.CFG for fixup (unless you prefer
to do it yourself). Remember to remove any sensitive
or security-related Events.
NOTE: If YOU update ECS.CFG, please assure that no
VOICE-RECORDING-C and PHONE-RECORDING-C Items share
the same leading number (e.g. 000.RPC & 000.WAV).
If I do it, I will notify you of any required file
renames.
2) If you are upgrading ECS-Standard, send applicable payment
to the address below, and email me when you have done so
(I will then send you the new authorization code).
If you purchased ECS AFTER 1/1/99, send nothing.
If you are upgrading from ECS/WIN, send $40.
If you are upgrading from ECS/DOS, send $85
(the original Win upgrade charge was $45).

3) BACKUP: I recommend that you copy \ECS (inc all subdirectories)
to \ECSOLD, so you can easily switch back to your original if
there is a problem.
4) Download/install "ECS-Lite" (from the website).
5) Run SETTINGS and enter the new auth code (remember to press <Enter>).
Thanks :-)
