when i configure an item for monitoring in ACE and its state changes in ECS
the change is transmitted over the DDE link.  If the item is a text type and
the text is changed in ECS the state does not change and therefore the value
is not transmitted over the DDE link.

So I need a state change. If i set the text item to display from ECS then
ACE does not get the updated text. I get around this by setting the state of
the changed text to display from ACE by sending a press command from ECS and
setting the ACE buttons that are pressed to set the state of the text item
to display, then it is transmitted.

this is involved. is there any way to stream line this. i have sent to both
lists because i am not sure who what and where this might be adjusted.

it would seem that a possible solution would be a new text item state
"update". this would force a transfer of the text value over the DDE link.
another would be to treat a change in text value as a change of state.
