I have had the system (3 units) for approx. 5 years- no problems to date.
A friend has had the same system (installed by the same dealer) for 11 ½
years. His sister's (next door to him; they share the same wells) system
is the same age. His system developed a pin hole leak last year due to the
ph of his well water eating the piping in the coil. He lived with it all
through the summer and the winter- placed a pail under the leak and emptied
the pail about once a week. He had Done Lowe replace the coil a few months
ago at a cost of approx. $400.00 (parts and labor). Not to bad for a unit
that is now 12 years old. His sister's unit has been flawless.
Like with anything, there are occassional bad units. Since the compressor
is located inside the house and not subjected to temperature extremes, a
geothermal system should last between 20-30 years before the compressor
needs replacement.
