Carl,

Don't know about the IR2, but I'm using ECS 4.1 and ACE on a
touchscreen; have complete control of voice messages, skip forward/back,
keep as new, whatever, just like I did using "local phone" with ECS 3.4
and Bigmouth card.  Mark says you can use "any" device (X-10 keypad,
etc) to control it and judging from my limited testing, I believe
him....  Take one of your "cheapo" Radio Shack 6 button console
controllers (the $9.95 ones) and make up an event to test it out (oops,
you do need ECS 4.1 but bet Mark would let you "try before you
buy")....  The upgrade fee depends on what version of ECS you're running
and when you purchased it.

To me, the price of my upgrade ($40) was some of the BEST $40 I've spent
on ECS!
