Subject: From: Date: | Re: [ECS] VNC internet access ? Scott Reston Tue, 06 Jul 1999 10:03:01 -0500 |
mark - the machines connect via TCP/IP - you don't dial directly into the server. if
both machines are connected to the internet, and you know the IP for the
server, you can connect from anywhere. the trick is knowing the IP for the server since
most dialups get dynamic IP addresses. i've written a little program
that sits on my company's web server that i tap everytime i dial in to the internet
to keep track of the last known IP of my machine. i think that there are
programs 'out there' that'll do this sort of thing via email (report the machines ip
upon connecting to the internet).
one of the niftiest things about VNC is that the server includes a minimal web server
and a java applet so that you can connect to the server from any
java-capable web browser from ANYWHERE. i just tried it and it works like a charm!
