mark - an "arp -a" command may do the trick... this shows the table that's used to identify
individual nic addresses. your's should be listed after "Interface:". the 
only problem with this would be that it would show multiple interfaces if you had multiple
NICs (adapters) like one for dial-up and one for a local network. since i'm 
at work right now, i've only tried this on a machine that's directly attached to the
internet and has a single NIC.
