Ryan,
Before dropping any bucks on VR-related mixers/etc,
I strongly recommend that you first try it out with
your PC mike under "real world" conditions
(at a distance, TV on, etc). Many (most ?) find
it too much of a hassle.
Two other possibilities to consider:
1) The use of a wireless mike(s) which you turn on
to issue commands. I think some mikes can filter
   out "background" noise.
2) The use of X10 keypads throughout the house,
whereby you push button(s) to trigger the desired
actions. Not as user-friendly, but MUCH cheaper
   and more dependable.
