When I do use ECS, it's through a serial distributor that I've written
(just a simplish piece of software that receives data from a serial port
and sends it out any number of other serial ports and vice versa).

I'd rather not do this, but nearly everything wants to talk/own the serial
port to my HomeVision unit. I have a multi-port serial card (critial for
something like this). One port attaches to HV, then the others from the
multiplier loop back into other ports. So ECS thinks it has it's own
port, the HomeVision software, my distribution server and HomeVoice.

Not idal, but until we can move from a strictly "single owner" model of HA
software control to a more distributed, service oriented method, it's the
only way I can get all the features I want. I'm working on this, but it's
low priority... :-)
