Hi Martin, Currently I have ECS Arming and Disarming the system through a keyswith zone: I had to put a resister in-line to get it to work. I think I use a 5.6K in series (I can check if you like). I monitor the Armed/Disarmed state of the panel (I think I ran it directly into a HV-PC input (Again I can check if you are interested). I have not had the system long and don't have any PIRs installed yet but will soon so the system isn't really doing any security work yet! (laugh) I run the output of my sound card through a spitter. One line goes to the pc speakers and one line to the "music input" on the DSC 5928. *6 option 7 enables and disables the input (in case you didn't have it going). ECS speaks through the intercoms very nicely. CID announcements and so forth. I have also played with the VR side of the house. I have tried a couple things: I used a standard microphone next to a call station and tried to run VR with ECS that way: Not very good but it did work! Problem here is poor mic quality going to the sound card and the fact that when you are calling from another station ECS reply cannot be heard very well because you are then relying on the pc speakers to send the TTS back. I also have played with running a mic input directly into the 5928. This works better but I still have a lot of noise ( the noise floor on the sound card meter is quite high-using the line-in on the sound card gave me lower noise than the mic input though). The problem here is the noise (I don't have shielded wire for my intercoms, which may help by grounding the drain wire to the 5928) I may also build a filter to improve the sound quality-I don't know. Another problem here is that you can only tap into one microphone input (IE one station at a time........unless you could set up a microphone distribution device and attach all the microphones to it?) Anyway, I am still playing. Heck I don't even have my phone line attached to the darn thing yet. Did you buy a 31JX jack? I don't have one can you get them? Are you using the DLS software? Where did you get it. The place where I bought mine has a secure site and I am waiting on the login/pw. What are you doing for your system? Can you give some details of how you have integrated the intercom and ECS? -----Original Message----- From: Kevin Keast [mailto:libertyc@prodigy.net] Sent: Thursday, August 26, 1999 7:54 PM To: ecs-list@netbloc.com Subject: RE: [ECS] Best security setup w/ ECS HV-PC Tom, Hi, I use a DSC Power832 system. I absolutely love it. In fact the only thing I don't like it the fact that you cannot have a serial interface active all the time for monitoring. No problem. I picked up the aux board that has 8 digital outputs. My HV-PC listens to these. It does all that you are asking and more. I also bought the intercom system and use it as my ECS - HOUSE vocal link. You can also answer phones from any intercom. A outside intercom can also be purchased too. The system is not real user friendly though as it is a commercial system. Check out: www.basshome.com or www.norcoalarms.com I bought stuff from both of these guys. -----Original Message----- From: hutchins.ta@pg.com [mailto:hutchins.ta@pg.com] Sent: Thursday, August 26, 1999 7:50 AM To: ecs-list@netbloc.com; comp.home.aut@pg.com Subject: [ECS] Best security setup w/ ECS HV-PC I want to buy a security system for my home and would like to interface it w/ my automation system (ECS / HV-PC). I need to be able to have the following capabilities: 1) Latch-key (call me when kids get home from school) 2) Smoke / CO / Flood / Freeze monitoring 3) Be able to differentiate between the above and call me to let me know which one it is. 4) Be able to differentiate between zones (ie. 'An intruder has entered through the kitchen window' ect) 5) Wireless capability (retrofitting) but combination wireless / hardwire best 6) Must be upgradable Obviously must be reasonably priced and be able to install myself Any recommendations? Thanks Tom
