RE: [ECS] Best security setup w/ ECS HV-PC

Hi Tom,

Right now I use the intercom stations for TTS playpack or WinAmp to play
music. For TTS it works very good. For Winamp, well it is an intercom and
it is mono. There is a little noise floor when the intercom is in the
"music input" mode. Kindoff a quite hiss. I am working on improving this
using better shielded cable with a drain wire. Individual stations may also
be manually turned off "do no disturb mode". I am pretty sure you CANNOT do
this electronically - for zoned output.

I am trying to tie in the SR side of the house too. I need to fix the noise
problem first. I plan on hooking my scope up to it to see what my noise is
and maybe buidling a RC circuit to attenuate the noise some. SR works but
only about 60 % because of the constant "hiss" on the lines. Another
problem as I mentioned is that right now I have only found a way to tap into
the microphones on individual stations. Not all of them together. A
microphone mixer perhaps? Each intercom station has adjustable mic/spkr
pots so that may be another viable option.

The DSC is VERY easy for the USER. Intercoms: To call or page or answer the
phone is just one button. Then to set the intercom to "do not disturb it is
another button". That's it. Oh yes you can also transfer calls from the
intercom station to your regular phone. (holding the call button for more
than 2 seconds.). The LCD keypad is very nice and tells you everything.
Arming/Disarming is easy for the user. You can even get a voice/prompt
module that will speak over the intercom systems to tell you state
information and help you program the system too. I don't have this though.

Kevin,

Thanks for the info. I was looking real close at the Power832 and like what
I
see so far.
Do you mean that you use it as the 'microphones / speakers' for ECS SR? Does
it
work well?
What do you mean by not user friendly? Is it just hard to set up or is it
hard
to use? I have a wife and 4 young kids who will have to be able to use it
regularly. Do you think they will have problems?
Otherwise sounds really cool!!

Tom

Tom,

Hi, I use a DSC Power832 system. I absolutely love it. In fact the only
thing I don't like it the fact that you cannot have a serial interface
active all the time for monitoring. No problem. I picked up the aux board
that has 8 digital outputs. My HV-PC listens to these. It does all that
you are asking and more. I also bought the intercom system and use it as my
ECS - HOUSE vocal link. You can also answer phones from any intercom. A
outside intercom can also be purchased too.

The system is not real user friendly though as it is a commercial system.

I bought stuff from both of these guys.

I want to buy a security system for my home and would like to interface it
w/ my
automation system (ECS / HV-PC). I need to be able to have the following
capabilities:

1) Latch-key (call me when kids get home from school)
2) Smoke / CO / Flood / Freeze monitoring
3) Be able to differentiate between the above and call me to let me know
which
one it is.
4) Be able to differentiate between zones (ie. 'An intruder has entered
through
the kitchen window' ect)
5) Wireless capability (retrofitting) but combination wireless / hardwire
best
6) Must be upgradable

Obviously must be reasonably priced and be able to install myself
Any recommendations?

Thanks
Tom
