Sounds like some great work! Don't feel isolated, I've got all kinds of
custom home-brew stuff going and ECS drives all of it :-)

Subject: [ECS] Temperature Monitoring
Greetings:
For those of you interested in temperature monitoring using the DALLAS
DS 1820 chip. I use ECS to interface to a "Point Six" HA5 adapter
(www.pointsix.com). I can monitor temperatures all around the house
using a single Cat 5 cable or the spare telephone line run to each
room. The HA5 adapter connects to a serial port and responses to coded
text strings sent by ECS. The adapter also communicates with the DALLAS
DS2407 latch IC. I have modified a number of PIR sensors so I can both
sense motion and activate switches using this adapter. ECS does not
provide direct support for the HA5 so I use the Serial-Byte TYPE with a
couple of custom made TYPEs to communicate with the HA5. I use the HA5
to monitor temperature and to scan PIR sensors. Scanning the PIRs
avoids conflicts from multiple activations. I then use the CM11A to
send x-10 commands in response to HA5 activity. I'm quite happy with
the results and my work sure demonstrates the flexibility of ECS. The
HA5 costs about $100 and everyone knows the cost of the CM11A. Using
ECS an HA5 adapter and a CM11A I have a moderately price system with a
lot of flexibility. My wife thinks I'm crazy for wanting to know the
temperature of every room in the house but the next time our stove
over-heats she might change her mind.
I hope someone finds this interesting, I feel a little isolated out here
using a custom interface.
