Scott,
I suspect that your modem may be faulty, as it is
SUPPOSED to detect/report silence (which causes ECS
to abort the recording).
Try recording a PHONE-RECORDING Item with the local
handset and see if ECS aborts after 5-6 seconds
of silence. If NOT, repeat with debug=1 (ALT-Z with
4.2 or ALT-T with 4.1) and email me ELG.TMP.
If SO, there may be noise on the line (which
would not be there when recording with the handset).
NOTE/FYI: In 4.2, the silence threshold command is
contained in PHNC0.SET.
