Subject: From: Date: | Using Keypads Jerry Swords Mon, 29 Nov 1999 00:05:15 -0500 |
I would like to control access to my home by installing a keypad next to the
main entrance. Nothing fancy, just a simple 4-7 digit PIN, that ECS could
check against a list of authorized users. I could hack some kind of keypad
using X10 or digital inputs via my TC+ or CPU-XA. However, in initial
testing with all of these methods, button presses would have to be spaced
with a (relatively) lengthy time interval between successive button presses,
and long presses of the buttons. Even with the TC+, a digital input must be
active for at least 1/2 second, for ECS to detect that the state has
changed. That could be rather awkward for occasional users.
Is anyone using a digital keypad with ECS for initiating events? I have
seen serial/USB keypads on the 'net, at reasonable prices, but will ECS
detect button activity on these devices rapidly enough to be used as a quick
access control device?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jerry
