I have my DCS 832 interfaced with ECS via the relay outputs the DSC box has.
It can give you armed status, ready to arm status, as well as alarm tripped.
I also have a "keyswitch zone" (zone number 9 in my case) setup on the LCD
keypad which is basically designed for a keyed contact closure but I have
connected to a relay item in ECS. When I want to arm the DSC I have an event
that closes the relay, waits 3 seconds and opens it again. (It's a momentary
contact closure the DSC box wants to see). If you repeat this action you
will disarm the alarm. ECS monitors the armed status and makes the
appropriate announcements and pages me based on the status.

It works well and I have several events that automatically set the alarm
state. For example my goodnight event checks the status of the alarm and
arms it if not already armed. My morning event turns on lights if it's dark
and disarms the alarm if it hasn't already been disarmed.

I don't have the DSC manual here at work but the relay outputs are pretty
straightforward from the 832 manual. The keyswitch zone is a little trickier
but also not difficult. The only thing you require is some digital inputs
and outputs and a little electrical know-how.

I also have the intercom and would like to interface ECS with it, but
haven't gotten around to it. :)

Subject: [ECS] HV PC IO port hook-up

All,

I want to set up my HV-PC / ECS system to interface with my security system
(DSC Power 832). I want to run the HV ports to a wiring closet so that I can
home run wiring from there. My question is can I simply run 4 pair cat 5
cable from the HV itself to a terminal strip in my wiring closet and from
there to the security system ect (I realize it won't be ' CAT 5' any more
but I already got the wire)? Also, does each port require a separate ground
/ common or can all be tied together.

Has any one out there tried this combination? I want to use ECS to determine
if the system is armed or not and arm it at the appropriate times. I also
want to have certain things happen depending on if the system is armed /
disarmed in the away / stay mode based upon the time of day, turn on/off
lights ect. I also would like it to do certain things depending on who arms
/ disarms (wife / kids each have their own code). Last but not least I want
ECS to phone me in the event of alarm with seperate messages for intruder /
fire / CO ect.
I know its alot but what the hey, Christmas vacation is coming up so I'll
have a little time to play.

PS. I have the DSC 832 intercom system installed and would like to pipe
background xmas music / CID / ECS messages through the system as well as use
the built in mics for speech recognition. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Tom
