All,

I got the HV and DSC hooked up now so that the HV knows if the DSC is armed or disarmed(thanks
Kevin and Martin).  And I got the Intercom installed and working. Not yet hooked up
to ECS but thats on the list. 

I want to have ECS/HV be able to arm disarm the DSC if someone forgets to when going
to work / school and also at night / morning. I picked up some of the ELK sensitive
relays and figured out how to hook them up. The only question left is how big does the
external 12V power supply need to be? I have some old wall warts around that are rated
at 300ma 12V DC. Will they work or do I need something w/ a little more power.

  I have a HV-PC and use PORT A for controlling the relay for the keyswitch zone on
the DSC.  PORT A can only DRIVE relays or CMOS circuits.  IT IS NOT A RELAY ITSELF.
 Port C could be used to drive a relay also if you specify it as an output.
   
   
  I use a relay for the keyswitch zone because you need to "complete the circuit" for
the zone.    I use ELK 924 SPDT Sensitive relays.  They are really nice and have not
failed me.  They require a separate 12V Power Supply.  I also use these relays on my
garage door openers.  Worthington Distributors has them for about $9 each.  Craig also
has application notes on his website for quick easy setup.
   
  Using CAT5 wire from your HV-PC to the relay should work fine.

Now I'm trying to figure out how to make use of them. I think I understand the DSC alarm

could simply hook up a connection from either PORT A or PORT C to an unsed zone and

the hook up. I thought that PORT A was a relay. But since you both discuss an external

    Sorry for all the questions, but since I'm obviously confused I don't want to hook
up anything wrong and fry the HV or the DSC.

      SR: I have trained MS SDK using the intercoms.  The first time: with great results,
the second: not so great.  Since then SDK has not functioned properly (I have never
had much luck with this).  I am determined to eventually get it working though.  Another
problem is that you can only tap the microphone input for one of the intercom stations
( I Think ).  So I am thinking that a microphone mixer will be needed at some point
to combine inputs.
       
      That is about it right now.  I love the DSC 832 so far. Good Luck and keep in
touch with your progress! 
      General Question:  How do I wire up the zone -following function?  Can I run the

to a terminal strip in my wiring closet and from there to the security system ect (I
realize it won't be ' CAT 5' any more but I already got the wire)? Also, does each port
require a separate ground / common or can all be tied together.

        Has any one out there tried this combination? I want to use ECS to determine
if the system is armed or not and arm it at the appropriate times. I also want to have
certain things happen depending on if the system is armed / disarmed in the away / stay
mode based upon the time of day, turn on/off lights ect. I also would like it to do
certain things depending on who arms / disarms (wife / kids each have their own code).
Last but not least I want ECS to phone me in the event of alarm with seperate messages
for intruder / fire / CO ect.
        I know its alot but what the hey, Christmas vacation is coming up so I'll have
a little time to play.

        PS. I have the DSC 832 intercom system installed and would like to pipe background
xmas music / CID / ECS messages through the system as well as use the built in mics
for speech recognition. Any thoughts?
