Dan,

I had a similiar problem when I was setting up my phone items. Im my
case I had a phone box item that caused the problem. Read the docs
about this item. Since I only needed one message box this item wasn't
needed. When I removed it, the greeting only played once.

Is there any reason that my phone answer greeting recording of my
voice saying
"Hi, we are not here.... please leave message" should be played twice?  I
have
not changed my settings on phone answers from dos and it worked fine
there.  I
just re-recorded my message as a .wav .
