Subject: From: Date: | LINUX questions Mark Gilmore Thu, 30 Dec 1999 18:45:44 -0500 |
Hi all,
The following questions are for you LINUX users out there.
Future LINUX questions will be mailed ONLY to those who
respond to this email.
1) My printer "lp0" is defined as a generic text printer, but
when I print ("cat x.txt > /dev/lp0"), I get only garbage
(on the 1st column only).
The various text editors do nothing when I select "print".
2) What is the deal with stderr re-direction with the GCC C++ compiler.
It seems to want to append a "?" to the file for no apparent reason.
e.g. "gcc -c x.c 2>> utlbb.lis" will write to utlbb.lis?.
3) Is there a way to access files on the OTHER disk partition
(LINUX->Win OR Win-LINUX) ?
4) How can I modify the PATH env-string to 1st access the CURRENT
directory ?
Can this be done automatically at login ?
5) What is conventional standard extension for batch files (if any) ?
6) What is deal with the need to access "A:" via "/auto/floppy" ?:
I there a way to refer to this drive as "A:" (or would this be
unconventional) ?
7) With DOS/WIN, I can get a dir listing for a file in any "lower"
subdirectory via "DIR /S {file}". Is there a way to do this with
"ls" ?
THANKS
