Using Wayne's list as a baseline, I envision the following: 1) Telephony software should support an API thru which "external" software (ECS) can: a) Access/playback/delete/record messages b) Access spoken commands (speech-recognition) c) Access CID (including call-waiting CID) d) Access DTMFs (remote and local) e) Play .WAV files f) Place calls to deliver messages and pages 2) Should support multiple lines (via either one card or via one card per line). 3) Should use industry standard protocols, cards, and/or voice-modems. 4) Modem/FAX support is optional. 5) Should be PCI or USB? (not ISA) card (if applicable) 6) Should be WIN & WIN/NT compatible (LINUX compatibility is also desirable) I haven't had time to look into it, but http://www.telecomlibrary.com looks like a promising source of info. -- Mark Gilmore Omnipotence (ECS home automation software) http://www.usit.com/omnip 423-745-0026 Wayne Wittenberg wrote: > > I would be interested in helping out with this also. > In my humble opinion, here are some minimum requirements: > + support two phone lines (at a minimum, but I think more than 2 might be to > expensive) > + must use an industry standard type card, Dialogic (Proline 2V: Used > $300/New $445), Rhetorex (now Lucent), etc. I would hate to see us all > invest time & money in an obscure card from a single source, and then have > that small company disappear or drop the card. > + no need for modem support, use a regular modem/cable/dsl modem for > internet access > + fax support would be nice, but not required, use a regular fax-modem if > needed > + ECS would still support voice modems for entry-level users > + must support Caller ID, preferably with Call Waiting Caller ID > + pulse detection (versus tone) is not required > + must be PCI (or USB?), not ISA card > + must work with NT and/or Win2K > > addition? different opinions? > > Regards, > Wayne Wittenberg > > -----Original Message----- > From: Don Stephens [mailto:donstephens@101freeway.com] > Sent: Tuesday, January 04, 2000 2:43 PM > To: ecs-list@netbloc.com > Subject: Re: [ECS] Phone-Interface-(X) > > Hi Joe: > O.K.
