Subject: From: Date: | Networking problem Kevin Keast Sat, 19 Feb 2000 15:53:02 -0500 |
Hello everyone,
I hope someone can help here with this general networking question:
I have a LAN with 3 computers on it, each with TCP/IP Ethernet Adapters. I
edit the hosts file to obtain name resolution. All works fine. I can ping
all computers with computer name or IP address.
Then I install dialup-networking on one of the machines that has a modem.
All of a sudden the machine with the dialup networking wants to dialup my
ISP to find a local machine. If I try to ping a local machine, I get a pop
up box asking if I want to connect to my ISP. The strange thing is, if I
select cancel on this box, the ping goes through to the local machine-but
only after I hit "cancel". Why does the computer think it needs to contact
the ISP?
As you can imagine this is preventing me from coming online with the ECS
server.
Any help at all would be really great. Thanks.
Kevin
