Subject: From: Date: | RE: [ECS] NT printer sharing question (non-ECS) Martin Terry Mon, 21 Feb 2000 11:37:33 -0800 |
Can you see the NT machine in the network neighborhood? If so, and you
double click it, can you see the printer listed when you open it?
What is the printer's share name? W95 has to have a share name of no more
than 8.3 characters. NT workstation can see printers with longer names, but
W95 cannot.
If you open the printers control panel on the NT box, and you look at the
properties of the printer, you should see a sharing tab. When you select it,
is it shared? Does it list a driver for W95? You can load 95 drivers
separately when installing the printer on NT if you plan to share the
printer to a W95 machine, but it isn't really necessary.
On the NT machine, go to network neighborhood, open the NT machine itself.
Do you see the printer? If so, the name is probably too long.

Subject: [ECS] NT printer sharing question (non-ECS)
I set up my ECS on a separate NT system. Since it is always on, I would
like to
have my printer on it and let my computer and my wife's computer access the
printer that way. She would not have to worry about my computer being on at
that point. I set up the NT box with the printer and it works. I set it up
to
share it and that seems to work as Norton Utilities shows it as a printer
being
shared. However, when I go to my W95 machine, I see the NT, can mount the
NT's
shared drives, but I can not see any printers on it.
Does anybody have any ideas here? I have set the permissions of the printer
sharing to let anybody use it.
Much thanks
Dan Carrington
