RUNNING ECS AS A SERVICE UNDER NT Under Windows 2000, this is how I accomplished the same thing as running it as a service. I run it as a scheduled event. CAVEAT, you have to use the web version of the ECS if you want to interact with it. I have not been able to get ECS, as a scheduled item, to expose its user interface. The web interaction works fine, however. To set it up as a scheduled item: 1. Go to Control Panel, select Add Scheduled Task and set up ECS there. 2. You will note that the wizard gives you the option to start the scheduled item when the computer starts. Select that one. As you do, you will be required to provide an administrative level password that ECS will use to start. 3. Then, when you're exiting the wizard, select to start the advanced options. Deselect "Stop the task if it runs for" so that ECS doesn't magically unload itself at some time after it starts. Alternatively, you can buy or try a program that lets you schedule ECS or start it as a service: WinCron 1.11 Schedule events in Windows. If you do Mark, you can provide the administrator an option to allow the program to interact with the desktop. This is all in Microsoft Windows 2000 SDK, which is way tooooooooo expensive.
